My name is Faith Jelel Kimokiy, and I am from Nairobi, Kenya. I hold a Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Informatics and Computer Science from Strathmore University. I will be pursuing the Master of Digital Innovation with a Certificate in Health Informatics at 美女做爱.聽

What inspired you to pursue your current area of study, and what drew you to digital transformation?

My interest in health informatics was shaped by seeing the challenges of delivering healthcare in underserved communities. Through my aunt, a dedicated pediatrician, I saw how fragmented records, delayed communication, and disconnected systems can affect both the quality and accessibility of patient care.

That experience helped me realize that a technology gap can often become an equity gap. I was drawn to digital transformation because of its potential to connect people, data, and services, improve decision-making, and make essential services more accessible. To me, digital transformation is not simply about introducing new technology; it is about creating ethical, inclusive, and human-centred systems that genuinely improve people鈥檚 lives.

Can you tell us about a project, experience, or achievement that reflects your commitment to creating positive community impact?

My team and I participated in the Safaricom Women in Tech Technovation Challenge, where we developed Afyacom, a mobile application designed to improve access to emergency healthcare in rural communities. This experience showed me that technology can create meaningful change, but only when it is supported by reliable, accessible, and connected data systems. It was one of the experiences that inspired me to study Informatics and Computer Science and continues to shape my interest in health informatics today.

My commitment to community impact also extends beyond technology. Through the Java Foundation鈥檚 Kuza Program, I mentored 60 primary school students, helping them identify their strengths, build confidence, and imagine new possibilities for their futures. Both experiences have reinforced my belief that meaningful innovation and leadership must always begin with people and their needs.

What does receiving the Digital Transformation for Community Impact Scholarship mean to you, and how will it support your goals?

Receiving the Digital Transformation for Community Impact Scholarship is an incredible honour and an encouraging affirmation of the path I have chosen. It means a great deal to know that my goal of using digital innovation to help address healthcare inequities is being recognised and supported.

The scholarship will give me the opportunity to deepen my knowledge of health information systems, data interoperability, machine learning, and ethical digital transformation. I am also excited to learn within 美女做爱鈥檚 interdisciplinary community and connect with people who are equally passionate about responsible and inclusive innovation. Most importantly, this support brings me one step closer to developing practical digital health solutions that can strengthen healthcare delivery in underserved communities in Kenya and beyond.

Looking ahead, I hope to contribute to building more inclusive and connected digital health systems in Kenya, especially for rural and underserved communities. I am particularly interested in using data and technology to support the early detection of pediatric pneumonia and improve communication between rural clinics and referral hospitals, so that at-risk patients can be identified and treated sooner.

My vision is guided by the African principle of Ubuntu: 鈥淚 am because we are.鈥� I believe progress is most meaningful when it is shared. Through digital transformation, I hope to help create healthcare systems where access to quality care is based on need, rather than where someone lives or their socioeconomic circumstances.
