You'll learn to optimize processes and systems: saving time, money, energy, and materials while improving efficiency, sustainability, and safety. You'll review workflows, analyze data, and build mathematical models that make complex systems work better.

You might start in data analytics, operations optimization, or supply chain roles and grow into project management, consulting, or operations leadership. With 90+ co-op partners, students often receive full-time offers before they graduate and co-op work terms count toward the experience needed to become a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).

Job opportunities for industrial engineers are plentiful and wide-ranging. Our graduates work in fields from semiconductor manufacturing and airlines to utilities and hospitals, anywhere systems can be made to work better.

What you will learn

Your first two years build a strong, common engineering foundation in math, science, design and engineering fundamentals at our Sexton Campus in Halifax or the Agricultural Campus in Truro. You'll then move into industrial engineering, learning to model, simulate and improve the systems organizations depend on.

In your final year you'll take on a major project drawn from a company or institution outside the university and treat it like a consulting assignment: real client, real problem, real recommendations.Ìý

Customize your degree

Tailor your BEng to your goals. Choose the four-year program or the five-year co-op stream, start your studies in Halifax or Truro, and use technical electives and your final-year project to focus on the systems and industries that interest you most, from health care and supply chain to manufacturing and transportation.

To be considered for admission to this program, you must meet minimum academic criteria:

  1. Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
  2. Achievement of the minimum average for your program of choice.
  3. Completion of Grade 12 English (or equivalent course).
