Together with partners across the university and external providers, the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) assembles an ongoing schedule of free workshops and events aimed to help you prepare for a diversity of careers.
The four pillars of the Dal GradPD program are dedicated to building skills necessary for success in any career 鈥斕Communication, Career Intelligence, Health and Wellbeing, and Leadership听鈥 and are offered exclusively to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

The Writing Centre offers daily group online writing sessions every weekday morning. Do you want to start the spring semester with a plan in place for tracking your thesis progress? Join this workshop to learn about Bullet Journal (Ryder Carroll) strategies to create a comprehensive and individualized journaling system for tracking your thesis progress. There is no official journal/notebook that you must use in order to have a bullet journal. You can bring any journal that works for you. That said, there are benefits to using a graph-ruled or dot-grid-ruled notebook, given that you will be establishing your own layout and designing works easier when you have something to go by. Bullet journals can be incredibly sparse or decorative, so please bring whatever supplies you'd like.

As high as 82% of individuals experience the imposter phenomenon throughout their careers (Bravata et al., 2019). The imposter phenomenon, a term coined by Clance & Imes (1978), is the 鈥渟ubjective experience of perceived self-doubt in one's abilities and accomplishments compared with others, despite evidence to suggest the contrary鈥 (Walker & Saklofske, 2023). More recent interpretations of this experience shift the focus from 鈥渇ix-the-individual鈥 to 鈥渇ix-the-institution鈥 with the concept of imposterization 鈥 institutional policies, practices, and interactions that make individuals question their intelligence, competence, and sense of belonging (Guti茅rrez & Cole, 2023).
As a part of the Resilient Classroom series, you will learn in this in-person session how to:
Identify the characteristics of the imposter phenomenon as experienced by instructors
Describe how impostorization manifests in academia (e.g., microaggressions, grateful guest syndrome, invisibility and inclusion taxations)
Explain the factors that contribute to the imposter phenomenon and imposterization in academia (e.g., systemic discrimination, gender)
This session will provide a safe space to share personal experiences if you wish. We will collectively brainstorm strategies to better prevent and mitigate the impacts of the imposter phenomenon, as well as first steps to chip away at the structural and systemic factors that perpetuate imposterization in academia.

Now that 美女做爱 is moving to the Bluesky social media platform, Dr. Emily Drake鈥檚 workshop is essential. She is a health leader who specializes, amongst other skills, in translating evidence into digital content. She co-founded the Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Societal Movement (#AYACSM) in 2013, creating an active, multi-disciplinary Twitter community. Recently she has moved to Bluesky (@ekdrake.bsky.social).
Dr. Drake received her PhD from 美女做爱, did her post doc at McGill, and is now tenure track at Mt. Allison University. This workshop explores how generative artificial intelligence is reshaping assessment design. We'll draw on broad strategies for responding to genAI's impact on teaching and assessment such as relational and transparent pedagogies, an emphasis on process over product, and attention to contextual specificity. Throughout the session, we'll also learn from your experiences navigating these challenges.
We can't AI-proof an assessment, but we can make it more resilient to misuse. To that end, we'll look at strategies for designing assessments that align with learning outcomes, feel authentic and relevant to students, and are resistant to its misuse.
Come prepared to think through a specific learning outcome you'd like to assess or an assignment you're interested in revising, so you can apply these strategies directly to your own teaching context.

Individual development plan (IDP) workshop:听In this session, you鈥檒l explore the skills and experiences you need to achieve your professional goals and map your plan to get there. IDP workshops will be held every month, so don't worry if you missed an earlier session. An asynchronous video of the IDP workshop is also available in the Dal GradPD Brightspace.
Pillars workshops:听Participate in听two hours of workshops from each of the Dal听GradPD听pillars: Communication, Career Intelligence, Health and Wellbeing, and Leadership. You can select from options provided by Dal听GradPD听partners or find other opportunities you think will best suit your goals.听
Experiential learning:听Take on听four hours of hands-on experience from each pillar. Write a blog, go to a networking event, practice a time management strategy, organize an event 鈥 the possibilities are vast and the experiences priceless.听
Professional identity workshop: Wrap up the certificate with this session that will empower you to articulate the value of the skills you've gained at graduate school to prospective employers.听
When听done, you鈥檒l receive a certificate signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and recognition on your transcripts. More importantly, you鈥檒l have developed a plan for where you want to go with your career and assembled the professional and personal skills you need to get there.听
